Job Description

Role Summary:

The Application & Database Architect will be responsible for defining, designing, and governing end-to-end application and database architecture with a strong focus on GCP AlloyDB PostgreSQL.

This role demands deep expertise in distributed PostgreSQL systems, performance engineering, and cloud-native architectures, ensuring highly scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions aligned with business and enterprise standards.

The architect will act as a technical authority, driving application modernization, cloud migration, and database optimization for high throughput, low latency, and high availability systems deployed across multiple regions.

Key Responsibilities:

Application Architecture:

- Define end-to-end application architecture across UI, services, integration, and data layers.

- Design microservices-based, event-driven, API-first architectures.

- Review and govern application designs, frameworks, and coding standards.

- Guide teams on non-functional requirements: scalability, performance, security, reliability.

- Lead application modernization and cloud migration initiatives.

- Evaluate and recommend technology stacks, frameworks, and tools.

- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, DevOps, and security standards.

Database & Data Architecture:

- Design, enhance, and maintain multi-region AlloyDB PostgreSQL clusters on GCP.

- Architect for high availability, failover, and cross-region replication.

- Optimize read/write distribution, latency, and throughput across regions.

- Perform deep AlloyDB/PostgreSQL performance tuning.

- Diagnose complex production issues such as:

1. Idle transactions.

2. Long-running queries.

3. Subtransaction overhead and lock contention.

- Analyze and optimize queries using EXPLAIN / ANALYZE.

- Fine-tune PostgreSQL/AlloyDB parameters for:

1. Parallel query execution.

2. CPU and memory utilization.

3. High concurrency workloads.

4. VACUUM and AUTOVACUUM internals.

- Drive data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical) and schema governance.

- Define indexing strategies and query optimization standards.

- Own backup, DR, retention, and database security strategies.

- Lead database migration and modernization (on-prem to cloud, legacy to modern DBs).

Cloud & Platform Architecture:

- Define cloud-native architectures on GCP (AWS/Azure exposure is a plus).

- Design solutions using managed cloud services (databases, messaging, caching, storage).

- Establish CI/CD, IaC, and DevSecOps standards for applications and databases.

- Drive cost optimization, performance tuning, and reliability engineering in cloud environments.

Governance & Technical Leadership:

- Act as a cross-team technical authority.

- Conduct architecture reviews and design walkthroughs.

- Mentor senior developers, DBAs, and solution architects.

- Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, and security teams.

- Support pre-sales, estimations, and technical solutioning when required.

Required Technical Skills:

Application & Integration:

- Programming: Java / Python / Node.js (any two preferred).

- Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, event-driven systems.

- API gateways, messaging platforms (Kafka / PubSub / SQS-like systems).

- Front-end awareness: React / Angular (high-level).

- Working knowledge of GenAI / Agentic AI / MCP workflows.

Databases:

- AlloyDB PostgreSQL (deep internals mandatory).

- Other RDBMS: MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server.

- NoSQL: DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, or equivalent.

- Experience with large data volumes, OLTP/OLAP, and high-throughput systems.

- Strong expertise in data modeling and performance engineering.

Cloud & DevOps:

- Hands-on architecture experience on GCP / AWS / Azure.

- Docker & Kubernetes (design-level proficiency).

- CI/CD tools: Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps.

- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform / ARM / CloudFormation.

Security & Reliability:

- Secure design principles, IAM, encryption, auditing, compliance.

- Observability: logging, monitoring, tracing.

- DR, resilience, and fault-tolerant design.
