Job Summary :
We are looking for a skilled Unreal Engine Developer to create high-quality 3D terrains and animated environments from real-world map and geospatial data. The role involves converting GIS and map data into visually accurate, interactive, and animated 3D scenes within Unreal Engine for real-time visualization, simulations, and immersive displays.
Key Responsibilities :
- Create realistic and optimized 3D terrains in Unreal Engine using real-world map data
- Convert GIS / DEM / heightmap data into Unreal Engine landscapes
- Add environmental and object animations (camera moves, terrain elements, props, vehicles, simple characters if required)
- Integrate terrain data from sources such as :
- Satellite imagery
- OpenStreetMap
- GIS shapefiles
- LiDAR / DEM data
- Design and optimize landscape materials, textures, and foliage
- Implement level streaming / world partition for large terrains
- Optimize scenes for real-time performance (LOD, culling, lighting, shaders)
- Collaborate with designers and developers to integrate terrain into interactive experiences
- Collaborate with designers and technical artists to integrate animated content
- Debug, profile, and improve performance across different hardware setups
- Maintain clean, well-documented Unreal Engine projects
Required Skills & Qualifications :
- Strong experience with Unreal Engine (UE4 / UE5)
- Expertise in Landscapes, World Partition, and Level Streaming
Solid understanding of :
- Landscapes & World Partition
- Level streaming
- LODs and performance optimization
- Sequencer
- Camera animation & cinematic workflows
Experience creating terrains using :
- Heightmaps
- GIS or map-based data
- Proficiency in Blueprints (C++ is a plus)
- Experience creating real-time animations in Unreal Engine
- Familiarity with Animation Blueprints (basic to intermediate)
- Good knowledge of PBR materials and lighting
- Understanding of animation optimization for real-time performance
Familiarity with importing data from tools like :
- QGIS / ArcGIS
- Blender / Houdini (nice to have)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Good to Have (Bonus Skills) :
- Experience with Cesium for Unreal or other geospatial plugins
- Knowledge of procedural terrain generation
- Experience with LiDAR point clouds
- Experience building content for :
- Interactive installations
- Simulations
- Large-format displays or digital twins
- Understanding of real-time data integration
