As part of the Revenue and Growth team, the New Initiatives vertical focuses on building platforms and distributed systems for newer business lines, including Instamart (groceries). The role is critical for increasing Swiggy's revenue, driving growth, and solving problems at scale, operating on millions of daily customer interactions.

An SDE III will own the end-to-end design/architecture of complex systems, co-own the technology vision, and partner with product/business teams to translate features into high- and low-level designs for mission-critical applications.

What qualities are we looking for ?

- B Tech/M Tech in Computer Science or equivalent from a reputed college with 5-8 years of experience in backend product development.

- Strong system design skills with the ability to :

1. Break down large problems into components and services with clear responsibilities.

2. Design for scale, reliability, and fault tolerance in distributed systems (concurrency, idempotency, retries, circuit breakers, graceful degradation, event-driven patterns).

3. Make pragmatic trade-offs between consistency, performance, cost, and complexity.

- Sound knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis (time and space).

- Strong low-level design and coding skills, including :

1. Ability to translate requirements into clean interfaces, well-defined modules, and clear separation of concerns.

2. Writing maintainable, testable, scalable, and efficient code following industry best practices.

- Proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Java or Golang, with a solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, and common backend frameworks.

- Hands-on experience working with databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) and Linux/Unix platforms, including :

1. Schema design, indexing, and a basic understanding of transactions and consistency.

3. Comfort with debugging and operating services in production-like environments.

- Demonstrated ownership and operational maturity :

- Experience owning services end to end in production, handling P0/P1 incidents, debugging complex issues, and driving long-term fixes.

- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills :

- Ability to work closely with product, business, and other engineering teams, articulate trade-offs, and drive discussions to closure.

- Experience mentoring junior engineers, participating in design/code reviews, and contributing to team-wide engineering best practices.

- Experience using GenAI tools (e.g., code assistants, documentation/chat tools, test generators) to improve development productivity and code quality, with good judgment on when and how to apply them.
