Job Description

SAP HR ABAP Consultant Extraction Logic Custom Code Analysis

Role Summary :

Technical resource to read, debug, and document custom ABAP logic embedded in SAP HR extraction, userexits, BAdIs, custom function modules, enhanced standard extractors, and payroll cluster read. This role needs to turn the code logic into documented, explainable business rules for the mapping files.

Key Responsibilities :

- Read and debug standard as well as custom ABAP code attached to HR Datasource extraction including userexits EXITSAPLRSAP, BAdIs RSU5SAPIBADI, and enhancement implementations on standard HR extractors.

- Document logic inside the standard as well as custom Z-generic extractors built on top of infotype tables or logical databases where such extractors exist.

- Reverse-engineer payroll cluster read logic to pull results out of payroll clusters RT, BT, CRT, WPBP tables.

- Trace custom Start routines, End routines, Expert routines, and rule routines in BW transformations (ABAP-based) and translate embedded logic into plain-language mapping rules.

- Work jointly with the SAP BW consultant and HR functional consultant to explain what the code does line-by-line.

- Where needed, extract/export sample data via debugging or test reports to validate that documented logic matches actual output before it's signed off in the mapping file.

Required Skills :

- 5 years SAP ABAP development with specific hands-on experience in HR/HCM technical objects, not general ABAP, only experience in payroll cluster structures and HR logical databases.

- Strong ability to read and debug existing code; this role is analysis-heavy, not new-development-heavy, comfortable using the ABAP debugger, other tracing transactions, and reading dumps of complex nested logic under time pressure.

- Working knowledge of payroll cluster structure and read techniques : PCL1/PCL2 tables, cluster IDs, RURX for US or country-specific equivalents, RPIMP and READCLUSTER macros, and internal table structures (RT, BT, CRT, WPBP, C0, C1, etc.).

- Experience with HR logical databases PNP, PNPCE and how custom reports/extractors typically use GET PERNR/PROVIDE logic against infotype tables.

- Familiarity with BW extraction exits and BAdIs (EXITSAPLRSAP001, 002, 003, 004, RSU5SAPIBADI) commonly used to enhance HR datasources.

- Experience with BW transformation ABAP start/end/rule routines, expert routines, able to read transformation logic not just extractor-side code.

- Understanding of Infotype table structures PA0000-PA9999 range including custom Z-infotypes sufficient to trace how a field in an extractor map back to its infotype/subtype origin.

- Comfortable working as a documentation-producing analyst on this engagement; the deliverable is clear written logic explanations for the mapping files, not new code, so strong written communication matters as much as coding skill.

Nice to Have :

- Prior experience specifically supporting a BW-to-cloud DW migration; has done this kind of reverse-engineering-for-migration work before vs only forward-development experience.

Experience Level :

- 5 - 10 years ABAP with at least 2 - 3 years specifically on HR/HCM technical objects, payroll cluster programming, HR extraction enhancements, or infotype-level custom development.

Mandatory Skills : HR ABAP
