Role Overview :

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and strategic direction for large-scale, mission-critical services in the Payments domain. This role is responsible for architectural ownership across teams, driving long-term technical vision, and ensuring platform scalability, resilience, and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Leadership & Architecture :

- Own and evolve the end-to-end architecture of high-scale, distributed payment services

- Lead the design and adoption of event-driven architectures using Kafka across multiple teams

- Define, standardize, and govern API design and lifecycle using API Gateway

- Drive architectural decisions with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, security, and

performance

- Lead complex cross-team initiatives, resolving systemic technical challenges

- Establish and enforce engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices

- Lead design reviews and provide guidance on complex system design problems

Mentorship & Org Impact :

- Mentor and coach senior, mid-level, and junior engineers

- Raise the technical bar across teams through design guidance, reviews, and knowledge

sharing

- Partner with Product, Engineering Managers, and Leadership on roadmaps and technical

strategy

- Deep expertise in Java (11+), Spring Boot, and RESTful API design

- Strong hands-on experience with Kafka in high-throughput, event-driven systems

- Proven experience defining and managing APIs using API Gateway

- Strong experience with AWS (EKS, DynamoDB, SQS, Lambda, S3)

- Demonstrated ownership of high-volume, highly available systems

- Advanced skills in system design, debugging, performance tuning, and failure analysis

- Proven ability to drive complex initiatives independently and influence across teams

Good to Have :

- Experience in Payments / FinTech platforms

- Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines and release automation

- Knowledge of caching strategies, data modeling, and large-scale optimization

- Exposure to platform engineering or shared services architectures
