Overview :

The Sr Software Engineer will manage and optimize database systems supporting the CPaaS (Communications Platform as a Service) platform-a high-volume system handling real-time communications data such as SMS traffic, voice call metadata, video session logs, and customer analytics for global enterprises. You'll play a key role in ensuring 99.99% uptime, sub-second query responses, and robust data protection in a scalable cloud environment.

Responsibilities :

- Design and maintain database schemas : Architect normalized/denormalized schemas using SQL (e.g., relational models with foreign keys, triggers) and NoSQL (e.g., document/key-value stores for flexible schemas).

- This includes schema migrations, versioning with tools like Flyway/Liquibase, data modeling for performance, and enforcing constraints for data quality as the platform evolves with new features like AI-driven routing.

- Optimize query performance and scalability : Profile queries with EXPLAIN plans, implement indexing strategies (B-tree, GIN, full-text), query rewriting, caching layers, and sharding/replication.

- Handle scaling challenges like vertical/horizontal growth, read replicas for heavy reporting, and auto-scaling in cloud setups to support peak loads during global events or campaigns.

- Implement backup and recovery procedures : Design full/incremental backups (e.g., pg_dump, mongodump), automated scheduling with cron/Airflow, offsite replication, and tested disaster recovery drills including point-in-time recovery (PITR) and failover to standby nodes for zero-downtime resilience.

- Monitor with tools like Prometheus for anomalies.
