VMware Engineer
Role Description :
As a VMware Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our VMware-based infrastructure and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). You will serve as a subject matter expert, providing L3 support to end-users and actively participating in upgrade and migration projects. Your deep technical knowledge and problem-solving skills will be essential in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our virtual environments.
Key Responsibilities :
- Administer and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hypervisors, vCenter Server, and clusters.
- Configure and manage virtual networking (vSwitches, distributed vSwitches) and storage within VMware environments.
- Utilize VMware vRealize Automation (vRA) and vRealize Orchestrator (vRO) for automation and orchestration of virtual infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Develop and implement scripts using PowerShell/PowerCLI for automation, reporting, and routine administrative tasks.
- Design, implement, and manage Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions, with a strong focus on VMware Horizon View client and agent components.
- Configure and troubleshoot Horizon Connection Server, ensuring seamless user connectivity and optimal performance.
- Possess deep product knowledge of the end-user computing side of VDI, understanding user experience implications and optimization techniques.
- Provide expert (L3) level technical support for end-user issues related to VMware, VDI environments, and endpoint devices.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting using specialized tools such as Systrack, Splunk, Process Monitor, and trace log collection and dump log analysis to diagnose and resolve complex issues.
- Collaborate with other IT teams (network, security, application) to resolve cross-functional issues impacting virtual environments and end-users.
- Lead or actively participate in significant upgrade and migration projects involving VMware infrastructure, VDI platforms, and related Microsoft technologies.
- Plan, execute, and validate changes to ensure minimal disruption to services during project implementations.
- Monitor the health, performance, and capacity of VMware and VDI environments.
- Identify and implement optimizations to improve efficiency, scalability, and user experience.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for infrastructure configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

- Advanced VMware Knowledge : Demonstrated advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with a wide range of VMware products, including :
1. VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter Server)
2. VMware Horizon View (Connection Server, Client/Agent, Composer, UEM)
3. VMware Hypervisors and Clusters
4. VMware Virtual Networking
5. VMware vRealize Automation (vRA) and vRealize Orchestrator (vRO)
- VDI Expertise : Strong, demonstrable experience in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure with deep product knowledge of the end-user computing side.
- Troubleshooting Proficiency : Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with tools for troubleshooting VMware and Microsoft technologies for end-point devices, specifically :
1. Systrack
2. Splunk
3. Process Monitor
- Trace log collection and dump log analysis
- Scripting : Proficiency in PowerShell/PowerCLI for automation and management of VMware environments.
- L3 Support Experience : Proven experience in supporting end-users in an L3 capacity, resolving complex technical issues.
- Project Experience : Direct involvement in upgrade and migration projects related to virtual infrastructure.
- Problem-Solving : Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- Communication : Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
Preferred Qualifications :
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification in Data Center Virtualization (DCV) or Desktop and Mobility (DTM).
- Experience with other End-User Computing technologies.
- Familiarity with ITIL framework for service management.
