Role : Service Delivery Engineer

Experience : 5 plus Years

Location : Chennai

Work Mode : Work From Office (WFO)

Shift : 2 pm to 10pm IST

What You'll Need :

- Ability and willingness to travel internationally on short notice to perform on-board system installations and maintenance, often in maritime environments.

- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline with extensive experience

- Strong experience in either implementation, configuration or troubleshooting in service provider or enterprise network

- Efficient network understanding (LAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT/PAT, static routing)

- Knowledge on SDN-NFV and SD-WAN

- Working knowledge of hypervisors like VMware ESXi, VSphere, KVM etc.

- Working experience of Cloud Computing Platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP

- Working Knowledge of Routing & Switching and NexGen Firewall

- Hands on experience on x86 Servers, Blade Servers

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills

- Strong troubleshooting skills and documentation capabilities

- Ability to resolve technical issues by making decisions using sound business judgement

- Solid understanding of the functional and operational practices necessary to operate in a highly available, highly secure, and highly regulated environment to meet business and compliance requirements

- Foster and maintain working relationships with customers to ensure processes are optimised to support expected customer service levels.

- Familiarity with Google Suite, Service-Now, and Jira would be of benefit.

Skillsets :

1. Core Networking Skills :

- A strong foundation in traditional networking is essential.

- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching

- Familiarity with OSPF, BGP, EIGRP

- VLANs, STP, QoS, ACLs

- IP addressing & subnetting

- Network security principles (IPSec, firewalls, NAT)

2. SDWAN Platform Expertise :

- Depending on vendor, the engineer should know configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting.

- Popular Vendors :

i. Cisco Viptela

ii. Cisco Meraki

iii. Fortinet Secure SD-WAN

iv. VMware VeloCloud

v. Aryaka / Silver Peak (HPE)

Skills include :

- Controller/Orchestrator setup (e.g., vManage, Orchestrator, Meraki Dashboard)

- Deployment of edge devices (physical/virtual)

- Overlay & underlay network design

- Zerotouch provisioning (ZTP)

- Policies : application-aware routing, traffic steering, QoS

- Tunnels : IPSec, GRE

3. Security Skills :

- SD-WAN often integrates security features.

- IPSec VPN configuration

- Firewall (NGFW, UTM integration)

- Encryption standards

- Identity & access control

- SSL inspection, threat protection (vendor-specific)

4. Deployment & Implementation Skills :

- Creating SD-WAN templates & policies

- WAN edge device provisioning (manual/ZTP)

- Integration with MPLS, broadband, LTE/5G

- Migration planning (brownfield & greenfield)

- Hands-on field deployment or remote provisioning

5. Troubleshooting & Monitoring :

- Strong diagnostic skills using :

i. Packet captures (Wireshark)

ii. Path tools (traceroute, TCP dump, ping)

iii. SD-WAN dashboards/analytics (vManage, FortiManager, VeloCloud Orchestrator)

- Understanding of underlay failures vs overlay failures

- Log analysis

6. Cloud & Virtualization Knowledge :

- Many SD-WAN deployments integrate with cloud environments.

- Basic AWS/Azure/GCP networking

- Cloud on-ramp or cloud gateway integration

- Virtual appliances deployment (VMware ESXi, HyperV, KVM)

7. Automation & Scripting (Optional but Valuable)

Not mandatory but highly demanded :

- Python scripting

- API-based automation (REST APIs)

- YAML/JSON templates

- Ansible or Terraform (for infra automation)

8. Documentation & Project Skills

- Network design documents (HLD/LLD)

- Change management (ITIL knowledge useful)

- Implementation & testing plans

- Customer communication and coordination

9. Soft Skills :

- Problem-solving & analytical thinking

- Ability to work under pressure during cutovers

- Clear communication with stakeholders

- Collaboration with NOC, security, cloud teams
