Position Title : Senior SQL Analyst - Data Science and Advanced Analytics

Role Summary :

Mouri Tech is seeking a SQL Analyst specializing in Databricks and Spark SQL to support the Data Science and Advanced Analytics teams. This role goes beyond technical validation and plays a critical part in ensuring that datasets, feature pipelines, semantic models, and dashboards not only function correctly but also align with business processes, calculations, and real-world operational logic.

In addition to strong SQL expertise, the ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of how data represents the businessits operations, workflows, metrics, and decision-making needs. This role requires the ability to assess whether analytical outputs are reasonable, identify when results do not align with expected business patterns, and investigate discrepancies by connecting technical outcomes to business context. The SQL Analyst will translate findings into clear, compelling insights and communicate them effectively to business leaders in a non-technical, intuitive way.

The SQL Analyst will work closely with data scientists, analysts, business SMEs, and reporting teams to ensure that analytical and BI outputs are accurate, meaningful, business-ready, and easily understood by senior stakeholders.

Data Validation, Testing & Business Logic Alignment :

- Perform technical data validation including null checks, referential integrity, schema drift detection, and distribution analysis.

- Validate that metric logic, business rules, and KPIs are correctly implemented and match stakeholder expectations.

- Conduct detailed comparisons between source systems, curated layers, semantic models, and Power BI dashboards to ensure consistency.

- Review dashboard data for business accuracy : correct counts, correct rollups, accurate filters, and meaningful KPI behavior.

- Partner with analysts and business SMEs to verify that data outputs make sense based on known operational processes.

Process & Governance :

- Document business rules, metric definitions, lineage, and transformation logic.

- Maintain approval records for metric definitions and business validation signoffs.

- Support governance initiatives ensuring that analytical datasets and dashboards meet enterprise standards for quality and trustworthiness.

Collaboration With Business & Analytics Teams :

- Work with Data Science, Finance, Marketing, Sales, Operations, and BI teams to understand business rules and translate them into accurate SQL logic.

- Support dashboard owners by validating Power BI datasets, relationships, filters, and calculations.

- Communicate data findings, issues, and risks in clear business-friendly language.

Model & Feature Pipeline Support :

- Validate training and scoring datasets for machine learning models, ensuring data correctness, completeness, and business relevance.

- Confirm that generated features (aggregations, ratios, time windows, derived fields) behave in ways that reflect actual customer, sales, or operational behavior.

- Troubleshoot data anomalies that may negatively impact model performance.

Spark SQL Development & Data Preparation :

- Develop and optimize Spark SQL queries in Databricks to produce modeling, forecasting, and analytics ready datasets.

- Build reusable datasets and transformations that support feature engineering, experimentation, and executive level reporting.

- Ensure transformations accurately reflect business definitions, operational rules, and metric logic.

Operational Support :

- Monitor data pipelines in Databricks and proactively identify data anomalies or quality issues.

- Participate in code reviews to ensure SQL quality, performance, and adherence to business logic.

- Assist with regression testing for changes to pipelines, schemas, or business rules.

Education :

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Business, Analytics, Information Systems or related fields

Mandatory Required skills :

- 6+ years of SQL experience with strong proficiency in Spark SQL.

- Hands-on experience working in Databricks

- Strong experience with data validation, testing, quality assurance, and reconciliation.

- Ability to translate business rules into SQL logic and validate that outputs align with business expectations.

- Ability to identify and explain data issues, trends, and inconsistencies to technical and non-technical audiences.

- Strong understanding of KPIs, operational metrics, and enterprise reporting logic.
