Senior SAP ABAP Developer

Position Overview :

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior SAP ABAP Developer to serve as a technical specialist and solution architect across enterprise ECC and S/4HANA landscapes. This role demands strong technical leadership, deep hands-on expertise in modern ABAP technologies, and the ability to design and deliver scalable, high-performance solutions aligned with business and architectural standards.

The successful candidate will take ownership of complex developments, guide S/4HANA transformation initiatives, and mentor development teams while collaborating closely with functional, integration, and enterprise architecture stakeholders.

Technology Landscape :

The role involves extensive work on platforms and technologies from SAP, including ECC, S/4HANA, cloud extensions, and integration services.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Leadership & Architecture :

- Lead and architect complex ABAP developments across ECC and S/4HANA systems.

- Define and drive technical architecture for greenfield and brownfield S/4HANA implementations and migrations.

- Establish development standards, guidelines, and best practices for ABAP and ABAP on HANA.

- Review and approve technical designs, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and SAP recommendations.

S/4HANA & ABAP on HANA Expertise :

- Design and implement high-performance solutions using CDS Views, AMDP, and HANA-native techniques.

- Apply push-down strategies to move business logic to the database layer for optimal performance.

- Perform advanced code remediation, simplification item adjustments, and optimization for S/4HANA compatibility.

- Ensure all custom developments comply with HANA and S/4HANA best practices.

Modern ABAP & RAP Development :

- Design and develop applications using the RESTful ABAP Programming Model (RAP).

- Build reusable business objects, behavior definitions, and service definitions.

- Develop modern ABAP extensions and ensure clean-core compliance where applicable.

Integration & API Strategy :

- Design, build, govern, and optimize OData services, RESTful APIs, and event-based integrations.

- Define and implement API-first integration strategies.

- Support integration scenarios involving SAP BTP and external systems.

Quality, Performance & Governance :

- Drive performance tuning and optimization using ATC, SQL Trace, Runtime Analysis, and Code Inspector.

- Define and enforce coding standards, naming conventions, and documentation practices.

- Conduct code reviews, technical design reviews, and architecture walkthroughs.

Team Leadership & Mentoring :

- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level developers.

- Provide technical coaching and support career development within the team.

- Support effort estimation, planning, and delivery management.

Collaboration & Delivery :

- Work closely with functional, integration, testing, and architecture teams to ensure end-to-end solution quality.

- Participate in solution design workshops and stakeholder discussions.

- Support production issues, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- 8 to 12 years of hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development.

- Deep expertise in ABAP on HANA and performance optimization.

- Strong hands-on experience with RAP, CDS Views, and AMDP.

- Proven experience in multiple S/4HANA implementations or ECC to S/4HANA migrations.

- Strong understanding of integration patterns and API-first design.

- Experience working with SAP Activate methodology.

- Strong knowledge of SAP development standards, transport management, and lifecycle processes.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred / Good to Have :

- Hands-on exposure to SAP BTP extensions (side-by-side and in-app).

- Knowledge of Fiori Elements and UI integration.

- Experience leading offshore and onshore development teams.
