Job Description : Senior Data Engineer (Buy-Side Cloud Analytics)

Role Summary :

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer with strong cloud-based analytics and data engineering expertise to support buy-side investment analytics and data-driven decision-making.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt, Apache Airflow, SQL performance tuning, and Azure cloud data services, and will work closely with data architects, portfolio-facing teams, and business stakeholders.

This role focuses on building scalable, reliable, and high-performance data platforms that power investment, risk, and research analytics.

Key Responsibilities :

Data Engineering & Analytics :

- Design, build, and maintain analytics-ready data models using dbt (facts, dimensions, data marts)

- Develop and optimize ELT pipelines in Snowflake for large-scale analytical workloads

- Ensure data quality through testing, validation, documentation, and version control

Workflow Orchestration :

- Design, schedule, and monitor data pipelines using Apache Airflow

- Ensure reliability, observability, and timely delivery of critical datasets

- Troubleshoot pipeline failures and optimize DAG performance

SQL Development & Performance Optimization :

- Write complex, efficient SQL queries for analytics and reporting

- Perform SQL fine-tuning, query optimization, and cost-performance analysis in Snowflake

- Optimize warehouse usage, clustering strategies, and query patterns

Cloud Data Platform (Azure) :

- Build and manage data solutions using Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL / Synapse

- Ensure secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud data architectures

Buy-Side Collaboration :

- Partner with investment, risk, and analytics stakeholders to understand data requirements

- Translate business needs into curated, analytics-ready datasets

- Support front-office reporting, analytics, and ad-hoc research use cases

Architecture & Governance :

- Collaborate with Data Architects on logical and physical data design

- Contribute to data governance, metadata management, and lineage initiatives

Required Skills & Qualifications :

Core Technical Skills :

- Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake

- Expertise in dbt (models, tests, macros, documentation)

- Proficiency with Apache Airflow

- Advanced SQL with proven performance tuning experience

- Experience with Azure cloud data services

Data Engineering & Modeling :

- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling (Kimball, star/snowflake schemas)

- Experience working with large-scale structured and semi-structured data

- Knowledge of data quality, reconciliation, and validation techniques

Domain Knowledge :

- Exposure to buy-side, investment, risk, or financial data is highly preferred

- Understanding of analytics platforms supporting decision-making

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience in asset management, investment firms, or financial services

- Familiarity with CI/CD for data pipelines

- Knowledge of data security, governance, and compliance best practices

- Experience working with distributed, cross-functional teams

Soft Skills :

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
