Position Title : SAP Basis Administrator

Department : IT / Enterprise Applications

Experience Level : 3 to 10 years (depending on role)

Job Summary :

The SAP Basis Administrator is responsible for managing the technical environment of SAP systems to ensure stability, performance, security, and availability.

This role focuses on installing, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining SAP applications and databases while supporting business operations and minimizing downtime.

The SAP Basis professional works closely with functional teams, developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities :

1. System Installation & Configuration :

- Install, configure, and maintain SAP systems such as SAP ECC, S/4HANA, BW, CRM, and Solution Manager. Perform system upgrades, kernel upgrades, and patches (Support Packages, Enhancement Packs).

2. Landscape Management :

- Manage SAP landscape environments including Development (DEV), Quality Assurance (QA), and Production (PRD). Ensure smooth system transport management using Transport Management System (TMS).

3. Performance Monitoring & Tuning :

- Monitor system performance using tools such as ST03, ST22, SM50, and DB-specific tools. Identify bottlenecks and perform tuning to optimize performance of both SAP application and database.

4. User Administration & Security :

- Manage user roles, authorizations, and profiles. Ensure access control compliance and follow security best practices to protect sensitive business data.

5. Backup & Recovery :

- Plan, implement, and monitor database backup strategies. Perform system recovery during failures or disaster recovery scenarios to ensure minimal business disruption.

6. System Monitoring & Troubleshooting :

- Monitor system logs, jobs, spool requests, and dumps. Troubleshoot issues related to system performance, connectivity, and application errors, and coordinate with other teams when needed.

7. Patch Management & Upgrades :

- Apply SAP patches, kernel updates, and database updates regularly. Perform system refreshes and client copies as per business requirements.

8. Database Administration Support :

- Work with databases such as HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, or DB2. Support activities including DB health checks, space management, and performance tuning.

9. Change & Transport Management :

- Manage and track transports across landscape environments ensuring consistency and minimizing production risks.

10. Documentation & Compliance :

- Maintain system documentation, operational procedures, and standard operating guidelines. Ensure compliance with IT policies and audit requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

- Strong knowledge of SAP Basis architecture and administration

- Experience in SAP HANA database is highly preferred

- Familiarity with operating systems (Linux/Unix/Windows) and database administration

- Understanding of SAP tools such as SAP Solution Manager, TMS, and system monitoring tools

- Good problem-solving and analytical skills

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple systems

Preferred Skills :

- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for SAP deployments

- Knowledge of automation tools and scripting (Shell, PowerShell)

- SAP certifications in Basis or HANA administration
