Position Summary :
As a Senior Oracle Database Developer at Clinisys, you will be the expert bridge between our software development teams and production database administrators.
You will design, develop, and optimize complex PL/SQL stored procedures and packages that power our laboratory information management systems.
This role requires deep expertise in Oracle database internals, advanced SQL tuning, data modeling, and the ability to refactor legacy database structures for modern architectures.
You will collaborate closely with application developers to ensure efficient, maintainable database code and work with DBAs to ensure production readiness.
This is a hands-on technical role focused on Oracle development and optimizationnot infrastructure administration.
Essential Functions :
Database Development :
- Design, develop, and maintain complex PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
- Write and optimize SQL for high-volume transactional systems.
- Develop database code that processes XML and JSON message formats.
- Implement proper transaction management including savepoints, autonomous transactions, and error handling.
- Create and maintain database APIs serving as the interface between application layers and data.
Performance & Optimization :
- Analyze and optimize SQL execution plans using AWR, ASH, TKPROF, and DBMS_XPLAN.
- Profile and tune PL/SQL code using DBMS_PROFILER and hierarchical profiler.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in stored procedures.
- Design and optimize indexing strategies for tables with complex access patterns.
- Conduct code reviews focused on SQL efficiency and Oracle best practices.
Data Modeling & Architecture :
- Design normalized database schemas with appropriate denormalization for performance.
- Refactor and modernize legacy database structures while maintaining backward compatibility.
- Create and maintain data dictionaries, ERDs, and technical documentation.
- Advise development teams on schema design and referential integrity.
Collaboration :
- Serve as technical bridge between software developers and production DBAs.
- Review developer-submitted database changes for performance and standards compliance.
- Mentor team members on Oracle development best practices.
Required Skills & Experience :
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on Oracle PL/SQL development experience.
- Expert-level SQL skills including complex joins, analytic functions, and hierarchical queries.
- Deep understanding of Oracle execution plans, optimizer behavior, and statistics.
- Experience with Oracle XML/JSON processing capabilities.
- Proficiency with dynamic SQL and understanding of hard/soft parsing.
- Strong knowledge of transaction management and bulk operations.
- Proven SQL tuning experience using Oracle diagnostic tools.
- Strong understanding of database normalization and data modeling.
- Experience refactoring legacy database structures.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Skills :
- Oracle certifications (OCP).
- Familiarity with cloud database platforms (Azure, OCI).
- Healthcare or laboratory software domain experience.
- Experience with DevOps tools (Liquibase, Flyway).
- Experience with NoSQL databases and unstructured data.
