Job Description

What youll be doing :

Team Leadership & Development :

- Lead, mentor, and coach a team of data engineers, cultivating a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and career development discussions with team members.

- Drive recruiting and hiring efforts to build and maintain a high-performing engineering team.

- Report on team progress, challenges, and technical roadmaps to the U.S. based manager.

Technical Execution & Guidance :

- Provide clear technical guidance and direction, ensuring the team adheres to best practices in data engineering, testing, and deployment.

- Act as a hands-on data engineering contributor, directly involved in the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and infrastructure.

- Participate in architectural reviews and technical design discussions, making sound and timely technical decisions.

- Ensure the team maintains rigorous standards for code quality, system performance, and reliability across all systems.

- Optimize the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and deployment processes to enhance efficiency and speed of delivery.

Project & Operational Management :

- Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverables utilizing project management tracking software (e.g., Jira).

- Anticipate, identify, and proactively mitigate risks and issues that could impact project timelines or team performance.

- Drive seamless cross-functional collaboration with other engineering teams, QA, and operations to ensure smooth product integration and release.

- Collaborate closely with Product Management and other key stakeholders to define the team's technical roadmap and strategic vision.

Support Management :

- Manage support request triage for L1-L3 support and ensure timely prioritization and resolution.

- Own global support process and operations - weekly on-call rotation, responding and troubleshooting, and resolving critical incidents and production issues - partnering with engineering and analytics management for implementation and process improvements.

- Ensure the global support process is adhered to by both direct staff and across the organization.

What youll bring to the role :

Required Qualifications & Experience :

- Education : BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

- Engineering & Leadership : 8+ years of experience in data engineering and/or software development, including 2+ years in a formal people management role.

- Team Management : Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of 4 or more engineers.

- Support Management : Experience managing a global support process across multiple teams and timezones

Technical Expertise :

- Data Lifecycle Mastery : Demonstrated understanding of the full lifecycle for data assets, encompassing the building, development, and maintenance of data models, reporting systems, data automation, dashboards, and performance metrics crucial for driving key business decisions.

- Problem Solving : Ability to design and implement robust technical processes to effectively solve business problems.

- Database Skills : Proficiency in Relational Database design, implementation, querying, and reporting (DDL, SQL).

- Data Tools : 3+ years of practical experience with SQL and ETL tools (e.g., Airflow), and working with relational and columnar MPP databases (e.g., Snowflake, Athena, or Redshift).

- Project Management : Proven expertise in using Jira or similar project management and issue-tracking software for managing engineering workflows, sprints, and issues.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills :

- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for engaging effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, alongside strong interpersonal and negotiation abilities.

And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following!

- Experience in an agile development environment (Scrum, Kanban).

- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.

- Experience with the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyze business functions and key operations and performance metrics.

- Experience with cloud infrastructure/platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and Data Lake development

- Experience with data quality and observability tools (Monte Carlo, Soda, dbt)

- Experience with data cataloging tools (data.world, Alation, Atlan)
