Job Overview :

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and technically proficient BigQuery Project Administrator to oversee the intricate project and cost governance of our BigQuery environment. This critical role will drive performance and cost optimization initiatives by working closely with data engineers, cloud architects, and finance teams. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the efficient, scalable, and cost-effective utilization of our BigQuery resources, maximizing our investment in Google Cloud while maintaining data integrity and compliance.

Key Responsibilities :

Optimization & Performance Tuning :

- Conduct in-depth analysis of BigQuery query patterns, access logs, and usage metrics to identify performance bottlenecks and cost inefficiencies.

- Propose and implement advanced schema optimizations including denormalization, proper column typing, and optimal table structures.

- Strategically apply partitioning and clustering techniques to large datasets for improved query performance and reduced scan costs.

- Recommend and create materialized views to pre-compute frequently accessed aggregate data, further enhancing query speed and cost efficiency.

- Collaborate proactively with data engineering teams to refactor inefficient SQL queries and optimize complex ETL/ELT workloads for cost and performance.

Project & Cost Governance :

- Monitor and meticulously manage BigQuery project structures, billing accounts, configurations, and resource hierarchies (Organizations, Folders, Projects).

- Implement and enforce granular cost control policies, define project-level quotas (e.g., query, storage, slots), and configure budget alerts to prevent unexpected expenditure.

- Administer IAM (Identity and Access Management) roles and permissions within BigQuery projects to ensure least privilege access and data security.

- Generate and analyze regular, detailed reports on BigQuery usage, spend trends, and anomaly detection for various stakeholders, providing actionable insights.

Collaboration & Support :

- Act as the primary technical liaison between data engineering, development, and finance teams for all BigQuery-related matters.

- Facilitate the onboarding of new data projects and teams into the BigQuery environment, ensuring adherence to established governance and best practices.

- Provide comprehensive training and continuous guidance to users and teams on cost-efficient BigQuery usage, optimal query writing, and resource management.

Best Practices & Compliance :

- Define, document, and promote organization-wide BigQuery usage standards and best practices for data modeling, query optimization, and cost management.

- Ensure strict compliance with internal and external data governance, security, and privacy policies (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA if applicable) within the BigQuery ecosystem.

- Maintain up-to-date and thorough documentation for BigQuery project setup, optimization strategies, governance processes, and troubleshooting guides.

Required Qualifications :

Experience : 3+ years of dedicated experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with a specific and strong focus on BigQuery administration, optimization, and governance.

Technical Proficiency :

- Expert-level proficiency in SQL for complex data querying, analysis, and optimization within BigQuery.

- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, including dimensional modeling, fact tables, dimension tables, and star/snowflake schemas.

- Demonstrable experience with cloud cost management principles and tools on GCP, specifically in the context of BigQuery compute and storage.

- Hands-on experience with GCP billing accounts, IAM policies, and resource management across projects and organizations.

- Familiarity with data ingestion patterns into BigQuery (streaming, batch loads via Cloud Storage).
