About the Role :

We are seeking a Senior Typesense Developer to join our distributed engineering team and work on enterprise-scale, high-performance search systems for a US-based client.

This is a fully remote (WFH) position, offering long-term engagement and the opportunity to design, build, and scale real-time, low-latency search architectures using Typesense, supported by robust backend services in PHP.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in search engineering, a strong backend foundation, and the ability to operate independently in a remote, globally distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Search Engineering & Typesense Development :

- Design, implement, and maintain Typesense-based search solutions for large-scale and high-velocity datasets.

- Define and optimize search schemas, collections, indexing strategies, and ranking rules.

- Build typo-tolerant, faceted, filtered, and real-time search experiences tailored to business use cases.

- Continuously tune search relevance, performance, and latency to meet enterprise SLAs.

- Manage data ingestion pipelines, synchronization mechanisms, and re-indexing workflows.

Backend Development (PHP) :

- Develop and maintain backend services in PHP to integrate with Typesense APIs.

- Build secure, scalable REST APIs to support search functionality across web and mobile platforms.

- Integrate search systems with relational databases and third-party data sources.

- Write clean, modular, well-documented, and reusable code following engineering best practices.

Architecture, Performance & Reliability :

- Design scalable and highly available search architectures with fault tolerance in mind.

- Monitor and optimize query performance, indexing efficiency, and system throughput.

- Implement caching, logging, monitoring, and alerting for search services.

- Ensure data consistency, reliability, and resilience across distributed systems.

Collaboration & Delivery :

- Collaborate closely with US-based product and engineering teams in a remote setup.

- Participate in architecture discussions, sprint planning, and technical design reviews.

- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues with a strong ownership mindset.

- Adhere to security, performance, and maintainability best practices across all deliverables.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- 8+ years of backend software development experience.

- Hands-on production experience with Typesense (mandatory).

- Strong proficiency in PHP.

- Solid experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and JSON-based services.

- Deep understanding of search relevance, indexing, ranking, filtering, and faceting concepts.

- Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or equivalent relational databases.

- Familiarity with Docker and cloud environments (AWS / GCP preferred).

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.

- Excellent communication skills for remote, cross-timezone collaboration.

Good to Have :

- Experience with Elasticsearch, Algolia, or similar search platforms.

- Exposure to frontend search integrations (React, Vue, InstantSearch, etc.).

- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployment strategies.

- Experience working on high-traffic, enterprise-scale applications.
