Role Overview :

Mitigata is looking for a Head of Backend Engineering to lead the architecture, design, development, and scaling of our backend platforms and services. This leadership role will drive backend strategy, ensure system scalability, reliability, and security, and build high-performing engineering teams to support Mitigatas product roadmap and growth.

The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader with experience building distributed systems, security-focused platforms, and cloud-native architectures.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Leadership :

- Define and drive backend architecture strategy aligned with Mitigatas product vision.

- Design and oversee scalable, high-performance, and secure backend systems.

- Lead architecture reviews and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.

- Ensure backend services meet reliability, availability, and performance standards.

Engineering Management :

- Build, mentor, and lead high-performing backend engineering teams.

- Establish development standards, coding practices, and engineering processes.

- Drive a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.

- Manage hiring, performance evaluation, and career growth of engineering teams.

Product & Stakeholder Collaboration :

- Work closely with product, security, DevOps, and frontend teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

- Translate business requirements into technical architecture and execution plans.

- Participate in roadmap planning and technical decision-making.

Platform & Security :

- Ensure systems follow secure coding and cybersecurity best practices.

- Oversee implementation of authentication, authorization, and data protection strategies.

- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

- Drive observability, monitoring, and incident response readiness.

Scalability & Performance :

- Lead the design of distributed and microservices-based architectures.

- Optimize system performance, database design, and service orchestration.

- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery strategies are implemented.

Required Qualifications :

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

- 10+ years of backend engineering experience with at least 4 - 5 years in leadership roles.

- Strong experience designing and scaling distributed systems and microservices architecture.

- Expertise in backend technologies such as : Java / Golang / Python / Node.js (any two preferred)

- Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

- Deep understanding of database technologies (SQL & NoSQL).

- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

- Strong understanding of API design, event-driven architecture, and system integration.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience working in cybersecurity, SaaS, or security product companies.

- Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture and secure system design.

- Exposure to SOC, SIEM, threat intelligence, or security automation platforms.

- Experience scaling engineering teams in high-growth startup environments.

- Knowledge of DevSecOps and CI/CD best practices.
