METRO AG - Senior Backend Engineer - Java/Spring Boot

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs (RESTful and event-driven).

- Act as technical lead for backend development, guiding design and architecture decisions.

- Mentor and support mid-level engineers, ensuring knowledge sharing and technical excellence.

- Ensure performance, reliability, and security across backend systems.

- Collaborate with architects, frontend engineers, QA, and product managers to deliver integrated solutions.

- Monitor and troubleshoot production systems, ensuring system stability and continuous improvement.

- Contribute to long-term technical strategy and innovation in workflow automation and backend architecture.

Education :

Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Work Experience & Skills :

- Extensive hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.

- Proven experience with Camunda; familiarity with CIB7 is highly desirable and a strong plus.

- Strong knowledge of microservices architecture and API-first design principles.

- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

- Proficiency in automated testing (unit, integration, component, contract).

- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar).

- Experience designing scalable, secure, and reliable distributed systems.

- Excellent English communication skills (written and spoken), with ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Other Requirements :

- Experience with Istio or other service mesh technologies.

- Exposure to cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).

- Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog).

- Knowledge of security best practices in distributed architectures (OAuth2, RBAC, mTLS).
