Position Overview :
The Linux Engineer (5-7 years) is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise- level Linux infrastructure. The role requires strong technical expertise in Linux operating systems, automation, system performance optimization, and infrastructure reliability. The engineer will work closely with cross- functional teams to ensure stable, secure, and scalable operations.
Key Responsibilities :
Linux System Administration :
- Install, configure, and manage Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE).
- Perform patching, kernel upgrades, and OS hardening.
- Manage file systems, LVM, storage, RAID, and system backups.
- Troubleshoot system- level issues related to CPU, memory, disk, and network.
Automation & Scripting :
- Automate routine tasks using Bash, Python, or Shell scripting.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts for deployments, monitoring, and health checks.
- Work with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
Infrastructure Monitoring & Optimization :
- Monitor system health, performance, and capacity.
- Implement proactive measures to improve system reliability and reduce downtime.
- Manage enterprise monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana).
Security & Compliance :
- Perform OS hardening according to security best practices.
- Manage firewalls, SELinux, user access, and privileges.
- Assist with internal/external audits and ensure compliance (ISO, SOC, ITIL).
Virtualization & Cloud :
- Work on VMs using VMware, Hyper- V, or KVM.
- Support cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) - EC2, IAM, Storage, Networking.
- Handle migration of workloads from on- prem to cloud or vice- versa.
Incident, Problem & Change Management :
- Handle high- priority incidents and perform root cause analysis.
- Participate in on- call rotations for production support.
- Prepare change documents and perform planned maintenance activities.
Collaboration & Documentation :
- Work closely with network, DBA, storage, and application teams.
- Document SOPs, deployment guides, technical diagrams, and troubleshooting processes.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
Required Skills & Experience :
- 5-7 years of hands- on Linux administration experience.
- Strong expertise in - RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu.
- Excellent skills in - Bash/Shell scripting.
- Experience with automation tools (Ansible preferred).
- Good understanding of- TCP/IP Networking, DNS, NFS, SSH, LDAP, DHCP.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
- Hands- on knowledge of- VMware/Hyper- V/KVM.
- Familiarity with- cloud platforms- (AWS/Azure/GCP).
- Experience with- backup tools- (NetBackup, Veeam, Commvault).
- Understanding of- ITIL processes.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE).
- Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Exposure to CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
- Knowledge of Infrastructure- as- Code (Terraform).
Soft Skills :
- Strong analytical and problem- solving ability.
- Effective communication and stakeholder collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and lead small initiatives.
