The Lead Software Model Developer is responsible for the development and technical leadership of High Integrity, safety critical software models used across propulsion and related vehicle domains. This role provides expert guidance in MATLAB/Simulink model development, ensuring that all outputs meet stringent Functional Safety (ISO 26262), aSPICE, and JLR Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
Acting as the primary technical authority for model based design activities, the Lead Software Model Developer oversees work allocation, prioritisation, and process adherence within the development team, while maintaining strong alignment with Product Owners and cross functional engineering groups. The role defines and validates software architecture and detailed safety design specifications and is accountable for the generation and quality of all Model Based Design safety work products.
The position requires close collaboration with Functional Safety (FuSa) and aSPICE experts to continuously improve processes and methodologies. The lead also ensures that testing feedback, model quality checks, and validation findings are incorporated into the model baseline in a timely and compliant manner.
Preferred candidate profile :
Skills, experience and qualifications :
Essential :
- Graduates / Masters degree electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent
- Significant experience in Model-Based Design and testing within automotive or safety critical domains
- Expert in developing High Integrity software models using MATLAB/Simulink, with a strong understanding of modelling best practices, code generation considerations, and safety critical constraints
- Proven capability in writing Safety Software Detailed Design Specifications and/or developing Safety Software Architecture, including conducting associated analytical work (e.g., functional safety analysis, error handling strategies, software decomposition)
- Strong awareness of aSPICE and ISO26262 and their application within software development lifecycles
- Expert user of Automotive Quality Management System frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and mentor technical teams
Desirable :
- Prior experience in a technical leadership role
- Experience in model verification techniques such as Model Advisor, Polyspace, or equivalent static analysis tools
- Strong familiarity of test coverage, code coverage concepts (Decision Coverage, Condition Coverage, MCDC, etc)
- Strong familiarity with electrified automotive control concepts (eg. torque path, energy management, etc)
- Experience supporting external assessments or audits (e.g. aSPICE assessments, ISO 26262 audits)
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR, embedded C code generation, or software integration workflows
- Familiarity with Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence)
- Previously trained or certified in aSPICE or ISO 26262
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities :
- Leads & coordinates the Development team, PO, Lead SW Tester with regards to work allocation, technical topics, prioritisation, process adherence, etc
- Consults with leadership team and wider dept. for alignment with other core activities / workstreams
- Provides expert guidance in MATLAB/Simulink model development, ensuring compliance with Functional Safety (ISO 26262), aSPICE, and JLR Quality Management System (QMS) requirements
- Work within an Agile development framework to deliver high quality models through iterative design, validation, and frequent software releases for prototype and production programs
- Perform reviews for the models developed by Model Developers according to modelling guidelines (e.g. MISRA) and aSPICE process
- Consults with Functional Safety (FuSa) and aSPICE experts for process feedback and improvement suggestions
- Maintains strong alignment on project goals with Product Owners and cross functional engineering groups
- Accountable for the generation and quality of all Model Based Design safety work products
