Head of Data Science

Job Summary :

We are seeking an experienced Head of Data Science for the build out of our commercial real estate loan servicing platform. They will lead multiple teams of data scientists in an Agile organization; the right leader will have a mix of strong technical understanding and a focus on innovation.

Key Responsibilities :

Strategic Leadership :

- Define and execute the data science and AI strategy aligned with business objectives.

- Lead three specialized teams : Document Processing and Extraction, Agentic AI and Predictive Analytics.

- Partner with engineering and product teams to embed AI/ML capabilities throughout the platform.

- Stay at the forefront of AI/ML advances and identify opportunities for competitive advantage.

Team Leadership and Development :

- Build and scale data science teams.

- Recruit and retain top talent in Generative AI and machine learning.

- Develop technical roadmaps for each team aligned with product priorities.

- Foster culture of experimentation and production-focused ML.

Technical Leadership :

- Lead development of intelligent systems for working with, extracting and structuring unstructured data.

- Design and deploy autonomous AI Agents that assist with loan servicing workflows.

- Develop multi-agent systems that can handle complex multistep tasks.

- Ensure agentic systems are explainable, controllable and aligned with business rules.

- Build models for evaluation and prediction of borrower health and early warning signs of default.

ML Operations :

- Establish MLOps practices for model deployment, monitoring and evaluation.

- Work with engineering and infrastructure to build scalable ML infrastructure.

- Implement model governance, testing and validation frameworks.

- Ensure models meet regulatory requirements and ethical AI standards.

Required Qualifications :

- PhD or Masters in computer science, statistics, machine learning or related quantitative field.

- 15+ years of experience in data science/ML with 8+ years leading teams.

- Proven track record deploying production ML systems at scale.

- Experience with modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, Tensorflow, HuggingFace, LangChain)

- Experience with predictive modeling and time series forecasting.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience in financial services, lending or real estate technology.

- Background in fintech or SaaS product companies.

- Experience with commercial real estate data and loan structures.

- Knowledge of financial regulations and model risk management.

- Track record of building data science functions from ground up.
