CONTRACTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
FIS Systematics Subject Matter Expert - Core Banking Data Migration Program
Engagement Type : Independent Contractor / Consulting
Location : Remote / Hybrid - travel to client site as required
Program Context :
FIS Systematics to Gen 3 Core Banking Migration
Position Summary :
We are seeking an experienced FIS Systematics Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a large-scale core banking data migration program. The client is transitioning from FIS Systematics - a legacy COBOL-based core banking platform - to a modern, cloud-native Gen 3 core banking solution. The contractor will serve as the authoritative source of knowledge on Systematics data structures, processing logic, and operational workflows, enabling the migration team to accurately map, transform, validate, and load source data into the target system.
Key Responsibilities :
Source System Analysis & Documentation :
- Serve as the primary SME for FIS Systematics, including CICS/COBOL file structures, VSAM datasets, and application modules (e.g., DDA, Savings, Loans, CD, GL).
- Interpret and document Systematics data definitions, copybooks, and file layouts to inform data mapping activities.
- Identify and explain system-of-record hierarchies, account relationships, and cross-module dependencies.
- Clarify business rules embedded in Systematics processing logic (e.g., interest calculations, statement cycles, charge-off logic) for use in transformation specifications.
Data Mapping & Transformation Support :
- Collaborate with data architects and migration engineers to produce source-to-target field-level mapping documents.
- Advise on data type conversions, code table translations, and handling of Systematics-specific packed decimal, binary, and zoned-decimal fields.
- Support the identification and resolution of data quality issues discovered during profiling, including null handling, referential integrity gaps, and legacy encoding.
- Review and validate transformation logic to ensure business rules are correctly represented in ETL/ELT pipelines.
Data Quality & Testing :
- Define and document acceptance criteria for source data extracts, including record counts, balancing totals, and key field validations.
- Partner with QA and reconciliation teams to design test cases that verify the integrity of migrated data against Systematics source records.
- Assist in investigating reconciliation breaks, data anomalies, and exception reports during migration dress rehearsals and cutover.
- Validate that migrated balances, transaction histories, and account attributes align with Systematics end-of-day positions.
Pipeline Design & Build Support :
- Advise migration engineers on optimal extract strategies from Systematics, including batch file exports, tape-to-disk conversion, and VSAM sequential read approaches.
- Support the design of data pipeline architecture, providing input on sequencing, dependency management, and load ordering (e.g., party before account, account before transactions).
- Review pipeline build artifacts - including extract scripts, transformation code, and load procedures - to ensure alignment with Systematics data semantics.
- Participate in pipeline testing cycles and provide domain-level validation of outputs at each stage.
Stakeholder Engagement :
- Act as a translator between legacy system operations teams and modern platform architects, bridging knowledge gaps across generations of technology.
- Participate in working sessions, sprint reviews, and design workshops as required.
- Produce clear written documentation suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.
