Role: Delivery Manager
Location: Chennai, India
Experience: 8-12 yrs
About the role:
Excelacom is hiring a Delivery Manager to drive software delivery for our product portfolio. You'll lead the end-to-end execution of product releases partnering with Product Management, Engineering, QA, and DevOps to ship software customers depend on, on a predictable cadence, at the quality bar our market expects.
This is a senior role for someone who can run a release train one hour and unblock a thorny cross-team dependency the next. You own the plan, the predictability, and the team health that turns a roadmap into shipped software.
Why this role is different:
- Real product impact. The software you help ship runs in production at major communications operators not in a slide deck.
- Owner, not coordinator. You own scope, schedule, quality, and team health for your slice of the product. No matrix to hide behind.
- Modern delivery. Agile, DevOps, SRE, and GenAI-assisted SDLC are how we work not slides we present.
- Path to leadership. Strong performance opens the door to Senior Manager and Head-of-Delivery roles as the engineering org scales.
What you will do:
Release & roadmap delivery:
- Own the delivery of product releases against roadmap commitments planning, sequencing, dependency management, and predictable launch cadence.
- Partner with Product Management to translate roadmap into executable plans with honest capacity, clear acceptance criteria, and realistic dates.
- Run release trains across multiple engineering squads: version planning, code freezes, regression cycles, and go/no-go decisions.
- Drive Agile, DevOps, and SRE practices end-to-end CI/CD pipelines, automated regression, production readiness reviews, and on-call hygiene.
- Embed GenAI and automation into the SDLC (test generation, code review, requirements analysis, documentation) to compress cycle time and lift quality.
Cross-functional leadership:
- Run the operating cadence: sprint planning, standups, demos, retros, release reviews. Sharp, not ceremonial.
- Partner with Product, Engineering leads, QA, UX, DevOps, and Customer Success so everyone is aimed at the same target.
- Surface and resolve cross-team dependencies, blockers, and risks before they become misses.
- Lead incident response and postmortems for delivery-impacting issues; convert lessons into durable changes.
Delivery health & metrics:
- Own the engineering delivery metrics that matter: release predictability, cycle time, throughput, defect escape rate, and the DORA four.
- Forecast capacity against the roadmap and signal early when commitments don't fit to PM, to leadership, to the team.
- Drive year-on-year efficiency in the delivery system tooling, automation, process without burning the team out.
- Govern delivery-toolchain spend and partner relationships.
People and culture:
- Build and lead a distributed delivery team. Coach scrum masters, release managers, and technical program managers.
- Own career management for direct reports: goal setting, coaching, performance reviews, and growth planning.
- Shape an engineering culture that takes quality seriously, ships frequently, and is honest about what's working and what isn't.
What you bring:
Must-haves:
- 812+ years in software delivery management, release management, technical program management, or engineering management in a product software environment.
- Track record owning multi-team release delivery against a roadmap, with measurable predictability and quality.
- Deep fluency with modern software delivery practices: Agile/Scrum, scaled frameworks (SAFe or equivalent), CI/CD, DevOps, SRE.
- Comfort with engineering delivery metrics DORA, predictability, cycle time, defect escape and the judgment to know when a number is lying.
- Strong cross-functional partnership skills with Product Management, Engineering, QA, UX, and Customer Success.
- Fluency with the modern toolchain: JIRA, Confluence, GitHub or GitLab, CI/CD platforms, observability stacks.
- Curiosity and appetite to go deep on a new industry domain we will invest in your telecom and OSS/BSS ramp-up if you bring the delivery chops.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
A plus, not required:
- Telecom industry experience wireless, wireline, cable, MVNO, or enterprise carrier.
- Hands-on experience with OSS/BSS products or the underlying domains (Order Management, Service Fulfillment, Inventory, Mediation, Billing, Revenue Management, Customer Care).
- Working knowledge of TM Forum frameworks (eTOM, SID, Open APIs).
- Experience shipping cloud-native, microservices, or API-first products on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Experience embedding GenAI tooling into SDLC or operations workflows.
- Engineering background you have written code or shipped systems yourself before moving into delivery leadership.
- CSM, CSPO, SAFe, PMP, or equivalent credential.
How we expect you to show up:
- Calm under pressure. Release weeks have hard deadlines and harder consequences; we hire people who get steadier as the stakes rise.
- Strategic, with execution rigor. You can zoom from a 12-month roadmap to a 3-day burndown and back without losing the thread.
- Direct and respectful. You name the risk early and call the slip honestly and you do it kindly.
- Bias to ownership. When something falls between the cracks, you pick it up before asking whose it was.
- Distributed-team fluency. You've led teams across at least two time zones and know what that actually costs.
What we offer:
- Product work with real-world stakes software you help ship runs in production at major operators.
- A modern engineering organization that treats delivery as a craft, not a meeting cadence.
- A path to Senior Manager and Head of Delivery for high performers as the org scales.
- Competitive base, performance bonus, and full benefits.
- Hybrid working model based out of Chennai, India.
