Role : Director of Engineering Core Platform
Platform Systems Developer Experience Foundational Infrastructure
The Problem Space :
Every great product platform is built on an even greater engineering platform beneath it.
The Core Platform is the invisible force multiplier. It is the reason a new product squad can launch a feature in days, not months.
It is why a booking system can handle 10x traffic without a rewrite. It is what lets an engineer instrument a service in 30 seconds and know exactly what broke and why in 5 minutes after an incident.
- 200+ internal services all sharing common platform primitives
- 50+ engineers depend on platform systems daily DX is a performance multiplier
- Platform failures are invisible until they are catastrophic observability is existential

The Core Platform team owns the systems that make every other team faster, safer, and more reliable.
This is infrastructure engineering in its most leveraged form and one of the highest-impact roles in the engineering org.
What You Will Own :
Service Infrastructure & Reliability :
- Common service framework shared libraries, SDKs, and runtime primitives for all backend services
- Service mesh, load balancing, circuit breakers, and traffic management
- Zero-downtime deployment infrastructure blue-green, canary, and progressive delivery
Observability Platform :
- Centralized metrics, distributed tracing, and structured logging infrastructure
- SLO/SLA management and error budget tracking across all platform services
- Alerting intelligence reducing noise while ensuring signal fidelity
Developer Experience (DX) :
- Internal developer platform scaffolding, CI/CD, and self-service infrastructure
- Developer tooling : local development environments, testing frameworks, and deployment pipelines
- Platform documentation, runbooks, and onboarding systems that actually get used
Data & Streaming Infrastructure :
- Kafka-based event streaming backbone topics, schemas, consumer group management
- Shared caching infrastructure Redis cluster management, eviction policies, and client SDKs
- Feature flags and experimentation infrastructure powering A/B tests across products
Security & Identity :
- AuthN/AuthZ infrastructure OAuth2, JWT, and internal service identity
- Secrets management and rotation infrastructure
- Platform-level rate limiting, abuse prevention, and DDoS mitigation
AI-First Platform Engineering :
- AI-powered incident detection pattern recognition across metrics and logs for early anomaly surfacing
- LLM-assisted runbook generation and on-call copilot tooling
- Intelligent capacity planning ML-based traffic forecasting and autoscaling tuning
- AI-native developer tooling code generation, API contract validation, and test scaffolding
Core Engineering Challenges :
- Platform Adoption vs. Flexibility opinionated platforms that are loved, not tolerated
- Observability Signal vs. Noise more data is not better; better signal is better
- Blast Radius Management platform bugs affect every team; change discipline is critical
- DX vs. Standardization making the right way the easy way, not the enforced way
Key Responsibilities :
- Own and evolve the full Core Platform stack from service infrastructure to developer tooling
- Set platform engineering standards adopted org-wide APIs, observability, deployment, and security
- Act as the internal customer advocate obsess over DX metrics, adoption, and friction reduction
- Partner with all product engineering teams to understand and solve their hardest infrastructure problems
- Build and lead teams of 1530+ engineers across platform verticals

Who You Are :
- 10 to 16 years in infrastructure or platform engineering; led platform teams at high-scale companies
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes, observability systems, and developer experience platforms
- Track record of reducing engineering friction while improving system reliability
- You think in leverage every platform investment multiplies across every team using it
- Tier-I institute background strongly preferred (IIT / IIIT / NIT / IISC / BITS CSE/ISE)
