The Desktop Application Support License Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end software license lifecycle for desktop applications, ensuring compliance, cost optimization, and alignment with organizational policies. The role works closely with application support, procurement, vendors, and security teams to maintain accurate license governance across Windows and macOS environments.
Key Responsibilities :
- Manage the full lifecycle of desktop application licenses including procurement, deployment, renewal, and retirement
- Ensure compliance with software license agreements, vendor contracts, and audit requirements
- Conduct regular license usage analysis and reconciliation to identify under-utilization or non-compliance
- Support internal and external software audits and remediation activities
- Coordinate with application packaging and desktop support teams to ensure licensed software is deployed correctly
- Work with vendors and procurement teams on license renewals, true-ups, and contract negotiations
- Maintain vendor documentation, entitlement records, and license terms
- Identify opportunities for license optimization, cost reduction, and rationalization
- Prepare regular reports on license usage, compliance, and costs for stakeholders
- Provide input into budgeting and forecasting for desktop application licensing
- Maintain accurate license data in asset management and ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Snow, SCCM, and Intune
- Support integration between license management tools and endpoint management platforms
- Ensure data accuracy and governance across license repositories
- Define and enforce license management processes, standards, and controls
- Support application onboarding and offboarding from a licensing perspective
- Collaborate with security and risk teams to ensure licensing aligns with compliance and regulatory requirements
Required Skills & Experience :
- 5+ years of experience in Software Asset Management (SAM), IT Asset Management (ITAM), or IT Procurement
- Strong experience in software license management for desktop applications
- Knowledge of major licensing models (per-user, per-device, subscription, concurrent, SaaS)
- Hands-on experience with SAM / ITAM tools (ServiceNow SAM, Snow, etc.)
- Understanding of Windows and macOS desktop environments
- Experience working with vendors such as Microsoft, Adobe, Autodesk, VMware, etc.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications :
- ITAM / SAM certifications (IAITAM, ITIL, SAM Practitioner)
- Experience supporting global or large enterprise environments
- Familiarity with audit defense and compliance remediation
