Job Description

Vasa Denticity Ltd. (DentalKart) - Product & Design

This is not a role where design is decoration applied at the end. Design is how the product is decided. We are hiring a hands-on design leader who owns the experience end-to-end across app and web, sets a premium visual standard, and uses AI to explore and ship at a velocity a traditional design team can't match.

Company : Vasa Denticity Ltd. (DentalKart) - India's largest dental e-commerce platform, listed on the NSE

Role : Head of Design - UX/UI, App & Web (AI-Native)

Function : Product & Design

Location : Delhi / NCR - On-site

Experience : 8+ years in product/UX/UI design, with team-leading or design-direction experience

Reports to : Head of Product / Founder's Office

Employment : Full-time, Permanent

Joining : Immediate joiners strongly preferred

Compensation : As per market

About the Role :

DentalKart is looking for a Head of Design to own the look, feel, and usability of everything a customer touches - our mobile apps and our website. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role : you will set the design direction, build the system that makes it repeatable, and stay close enough to the pixels to hold a premium bar yourself.

DentalKart is scaling fast with a target of 100% year-on-year growth, and the product has outgrown its design. Today the experience works, but it doesn't yet look or feel like the market leader it is. Your mandate is to change that : a coherent, premium design language across surfaces, flows that convert, and an experience dentists trust the moment they open the app.

You will own both halves of the craft that most companies split - the architecture (information structure, navigation, user flows, wireframes) and the visual design (typography, color, motion, the premium feel) - and you'll be judged on how those two come together into a product that is both easy and beautiful. You will partner directly with product, engineering, and leadership : design-led, human in command, AI on by default.

What "AI-Native, Design-Led" Means Here :

1. You work AI-native :

- Generative design as the baseline. You use AI design tools (Figma AI, generative image/UI tools, prompt-to-prototype) to explore ten directions in the time a traditional team explores one - then apply taste to choose and refine. AI widens the funnel; your judgment narrows it.

- Prompt-literate and spec-first. You can turn a fuzzy business ask into a crisp design brief - for a person or an agent - and you write context precisely, the way you'd structure a good layout.

- AI-assisted production. You use AI to generate variants, copy, states, and assets, to draft flows and pull them into working prototypes, and to close the gap between design and shippable front-end.

- Velocity with taste. AI multiplies output, so the bottleneck moves to judgment and craft. You are accountable for everything that ships under your name - 'the tool made it' is not a defense for a mediocre screen.

2. You build intelligence into the experience :

- Intelligent commerce surfaces. Design the customer-facing side of AI features - semantic and natural-language search, recommendations, smart cart and substitution - so they feel effortless, not gimmicky.

- Personalization & guidance. Experiences that adapt to the dentist, the clinic, and the buying pattern; guided flows that reduce decision fatigue on a catalogue of thousands of SKUs.

- Trust by design. Clarity, transparency, and graceful states around AI-driven suggestions - the customer always understands what's happening and stays in control.

- Design that survives real traffic. Systems, states, and edge cases handled - empty, loading, error, offline - so the premium feel holds up beyond the happy-path mockup.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design leadership : own end-to-end design direction for app and web; set the standard, run design reviews with a teaching voice, and grow/mentor the design function as it scales - while staying deeply hands-on.

- Premium visual language : define and enforce a modern, premium look and feel - typography, color, spacing, iconography, motion - that makes DentalKart look like the category leader it is.

- UX architecture : own information architecture, navigation, and user flows; turn a sprawling catalogue and complex ordering journeys into experiences that feel simple and fast.

- Design system : build and maintain a single source of truth - components, tokens, patterns - that engineering builds against, so quality is systematic rather than screen-by-screen.

- Conversion ownership : treat design as a growth lever; redesign search, PDP, cart, checkout, and onboarding to measurably improve conversion and reduce friction.

- Cross-platform coherence : ensure app and web feel like one product, with a consistent system and parity of experience across surfaces.

- End-to-end delivery : take design from ambiguous business problem to shipped, polished, production experience - and stay involved through build to protect the intent in the final pixels.

- Collaboration & influence : partner with product, engineering, marketing, and leadership; bring options and trade-offs backed by user insight, not just opinions; make the case for design where it matters.

- Research & validation : ground decisions in real dentist behaviour - usability testing, session data, feedback, and analytics - and close the loop after launch.

Required Skills - Core Craft :

- Visual & UI design - expert command of typography, color, layout, grid, spacing, iconography, and motion; a proven eye for premium, modern interfaces with a strong portfolio to show it.

- UX & interaction design - information architecture, user flows, wireframing, prototyping, interaction patterns, and state design across complex, data-heavy products.

- Mobile app design - native iOS and Android patterns and platform conventions (Material, Human Interface Guidelines); designing for touch, performance, and small screens.

- Responsive web design - designing for the full range of breakpoints, web performance, and Core Web Vitals as a design concern, not just an engineering one.

- Design systems - building scalable component libraries and design tokens, documentation, and governance so a system stays consistent as it grows.

- Tooling - expert in Figma (components, variants, auto-layout, prototyping); comfort with the wider stack - prototyping, motion, and handoff tools.

- AI design tools - practical fluency with AI-assisted design and generation (Figma AI, prompt-to-UI/image tools) as a daily part of how you explore and ship.

- Design-to-code literacy - enough understanding of HTML/CSS and component-based front-end (React / React Native) to design what can be built and to hand off cleanly to engineers.

- Research & testing - usability testing, A/B testing, and reading behavioural/analytics data to validate design decisions.

- Accessibility - designing to WCAG standards; contrast, hierarchy, and inclusive patterns as defaults, not afterthoughts.

Required Skills - Practice & Leadership :

- Design direction - setting and holding a cohesive visual and experiential vision across a multi-surface product, and articulating the 'why' behind it.

- Team leadership - mentoring designers, running critique culture, giving sharp and kind feedback, and building a small team as the function grows.

- Stakeholder management - working with founders, product, and engineering; earning trust, managing competing priorities, and defending the user without being precious.

- Product & commerce sense - understanding funnels, conversion, retention, and unit economics; designing with business outcomes in mind, not just aesthetics.

- Handoff & collaboration - clean, engineer-ready specs, tight design-QA, and a partnership with engineering that protects quality through to release.

- AI-native workflow - fluency with generative design and prompt-first exploration, and the judgment to know when AI helps and when it flattens the work.

- Delivery discipline - working in Agile/Scrum, scoping design work to sprints, and shipping iteratively without losing the premium bar.

- Communication & storytelling - presenting work persuasively, telling the story of a design decision, and taking a room from problem to aligned solution.

Key Result Areas (First 12 Months) :

- Design language & premium feel : Ships a unified, premium visual language across app and web that looks intentional, modern, and unmistakably DentalKart. (Measured by : Design system live, consistency audit, brand perception)

- Conversion & usability : Redesigned core flows - search, PDP, cart, checkout, onboarding - measurably lift conversion and reduce drop-off. (Measured by : CVR, funnel drop-off, task-success rate)

- Design system : Establishes a single component library and tokens that engineering builds against, so quality is repeatable, not bespoke per screen. (Measured by : Component reuse, design-to-dev handoff time)

- AI-native design velocity : Demonstrates and embeds AI-assisted design workflows the team adopts; more explored, faster, at higher quality. (Measured by : Concepts shipped vs. baseline, workflows adopted)

- Cross-platform coherence : App and web feel like one product; parity of experience and visual system across surfaces. (Measured by : Cross-surface consistency, parity backlog burn-down)

- Team & influence : Lifts design maturity across product and engineering; hires/mentors as the function grows. (Measured by : Team growth, design-review quality, stakeholder trust)

What We're Looking For :

Must-Have :

- 8+ years in product / UX / UI design, with real ownership of shipped consumer products and design-direction or team-leading experience.

- A standout portfolio showing both premium visual craft and strong UX thinking - ideally across mobile app and web.

- Proven ability to design and ship a design system, not just individual screens.

- Demonstrated AI-native workflow : you already design with AI tools daily and can show how it changes your output and quality.

- Strong grasp of designing for conversion and usability in e-commerce or a comparable transactional product.

- Fluency in Figma and modern design tooling; comfort designing to what engineering can build.

- Clear communicator who can lead through influence and operate with founders and engineers alike.

- Available to join on an immediate basis, on-site in Delhi / NCR.

Nice-to-Have :

- E-commerce, marketplace, or high-traffic consumer-platform experience.

- Healthcare, dental, or B2B/B2C hybrid product exposure.

- Hands-on prototyping or front-end skills (React / React Native, HTML/CSS).

- Motion design, illustration, or brand-identity capability.

- Experience building and hiring a design team from an early stage.

Selection Process :

- Intro call - role, mandate, compensation, and mutual fit (CTC and KRAs on the table from the start).

- Portfolio deep-dive - you walk us through real work - the problem, your decisions, the trade-offs, and the outcome.

- Design working session - a live, AI-assisted design exercise on a real DentalKart surface. We watch how you think and how you drive the tools, not whether you produce a finished screen.

- Founder / leadership round - taste, ownership, judgment, and how you think about building a design-led product.

Compensation :

As per market, with a deliberate premium for genuine design leadership and AI-native capability. Final offer reflects craft, demonstrated impact, and interview performance - discussed openly at the first call, no surprises.

Why DentalKart :

India's largest dental e-commerce platform, listed on the NSE, on a serious growth trajectory. Real ownership of the entire customer experience, direct access to leadership, and a blank-canvas mandate to define what premium looks like for the category. You'll shape both the product's design and how design itself is practised here.

If you've already stopped treating AI as a toy on the side - and your design output got broader and sharper, not thinner - this role was written for you.
