The Role :

We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL DBA L2 to manage, monitor, and optimize PostgreSQL database environments.

The role involves ensuring high availability, performance tuning, backup and recovery planning, incident management, and continuous improvement of database operations through automation and best practices.

Responsibilities :

Database Administration & Operations :

- Configure, monitor, and optimize PostgreSQL database environments.

- Perform query analysis to understand data usage patterns and improve performance.

- Allocate system storage and plan future database storage requirements.

- Tune database parameters for optimal performance and stability.

- Reinstall and upgrade database software as required.

Monitoring, Availability & Performance :

- Monitor database availability, performance, and health.

- Review event logs, error logs, and system alerts proactively.

- Identify failures or warning signs indicating imminent database issues.

- Perform periodic configuration reviews to ensure consistency and compliance.

- Provide recommendations to improve database availability and resilience.

- Prepare and share monthly database availability and performance reports.

Backup, Recovery & Replication :

- Plan, implement, and manage database backup and recovery strategies.

- Perform restoration of databases during incidents or failures.

- Manage and monitor database replication mechanisms.

Incident, Problem & Change Management :

- Respond to database-related incidents and drive corrective and preventive actions.

- Correlate related incidents and raise problem tickets as part of Problem Management.

- Use trend analysis to identify recurring issues and create Problem Management records.

- Manage all service requests through the Change Management process.

Maintenance & Optimization :

- Purge database logs and trace files to maintain optimal performance.

- Conduct performance management activities on a regular basis.

- Automate routine database administration tasks wherever possible.

Documentation & Compliance :

- Maintain and update all database environment documentation.

- Ensure adherence to operational standards and best practices.

Must Have Qualifications :

- Strong hands-on experience in PostgreSQL Database Administration (L2 level).

- Database configuration, monitoring, and performance tuning.

- Query analysis and optimization.

- Backup, recovery, and database restoration.

- Database availability and health monitoring.

- Log monitoring (event logs, error logs, system alerts).

- Incident management and root cause analysis.

- Problem management using trend analysis and incident correlation.

- Change management and service request handling.

- Storage allocation and capacity planning.

- Purging and maintenance of database logs and trace files.

- Database replication management.

- Reinstallation and upgrade of PostgreSQL software.

- Strong documentation and reporting skills (monthly availability reports).

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience working in cloud environments (Azure/AWS).

- Microsoft or ITIL certification.

- Exposure to automation or scripting (PowerShell).

- Experience with large-scale enterprise environments.
