Job Description :

As a Database Administrator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the high availability, performance, and security of our mission-critical database systems. You will be instrumental in supporting our ongoing database modernization initiatives, particularly the migration from Oracle to PostgreSQL. This position requires a proactive individual with strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to operational excellence in a 24x7 global environment.

Key Responsibilities :

- Database Operations & Support : Provide comprehensive daily support for production and non-production Oracle and PostgreSQL database environments, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability.

- Performance Tuning & Optimization : Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement advanced SQL tuning, schema optimizations, and instance parameter adjustments to enhance overall system efficiency.

- Maintenance & Patching : Plan, schedule, and execute regular database patching, upgrades, and maintenance activities to ensure systems are secure, compliant, and running on supported versions.

- Backup & Disaster Recovery (DR) : Design, implement, and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies for all supported database platforms. Regularly test disaster recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.

- Database Migrations : Actively participate in the planning, execution, and post-migration support of database migration projects, with a strong focus on transitioning Oracle databases to PostgreSQL. This includes data migration, schema conversion, and application re-platforming support.

- Automation & Scripting : Develop, maintain, and enhance automation scripts using Shell, Perl, or Python to streamline routine database tasks, improve operational efficiency, and reduce manual intervention.

- Troubleshooting & Incident Management : Respond to and resolve complex database incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures to minimize recurrence. Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24x7 support.

- Collaboration & Mentorship : Work closely with cross-functional teams, including application development, infrastructure, and security teams, to provide database expertise, support new initiatives, and troubleshoot issues. Mentor junior team members and share knowledge.

- Documentation : Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

- Capacity Planning : Assist in capacity planning and forecasting for database growth, ensuring adequate resources are available to meet future demands.

Required Qualifications :

- Experience : Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience as an Oracle Database Administrator in a large-scale, enterprise-level production environment.

Oracle Expertise :

- Proficiency with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) for high availability.

- Extensive experience with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) for backup and recovery.

- Demonstrated expertise with Oracle Data Guard and/or GoldenGate for replication and disaster recovery solutions.

- SQL Proficiency : Strong expertise in SQL query writing, optimization, and performance tuning for complex applications.

- Scripting Skills : Proven ability to write robust and efficient scripts using Shell, Perl, or Python for database automation and administration tasks.

- Global Operations : Experience working in a global 24x7 production support environment, including participation in on-call rotations.

- Infrastructure Understanding : Solid understanding of underlying infrastructure components, including networking concepts, cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), and virtualized platforms (e.g., VMware).

- Problem-Solving : Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting complex database issues.

Preferred Qualifications :

- PostgreSQL Experience : Significant hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration, including performance tuning, replication, and backup strategies.

- SQL Server Experience : Practical experience with SQL Server administration, including maintenance, backup, and basic troubleshooting.

- Other Databases : Experience with Informix and/or MySQL database administration.

- Cloud Database Management : Hands-on experience managing databases in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL).

- Communication : Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Certifications : Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, PostgreSQL Associate).
