Job Title : Master Data Manager / Data Governance Lead
Role Objective :
This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, consistency, and usability of all core business data across systems such as CRM, service platforms, dealer systems, and finance/ERP.
The position serves as the single point of accountability for maintaining a unified and reliable single source of truth, enabling accurate operations, reporting, and decision-making across the organization.
Scope of Master Data :
The role will oversee governance and lifecycle management of key business entities, including :
- Customers (B2C and B2B)
- Dealers / Channel Partners
- Contractors / Service Providers
- Products and SKUs
- Pricing structures and schemes
- Locations (stores, territories, operational zones)
- Employees and role hierarchies
- Vendors and suppliers
Key Responsibilities :
1. Master Data Governance :
- Define and classify master data vs transactional data across systems
- Establish clear data ownership across business functions (Sales, Service, Finance, Product)
- Create and enforce data standards, definitions, and naming conventions
- Develop and implement data governance frameworks and policies
2. Data Quality Management :
- Define data quality metrics (completeness, accuracy, duplication, timeliness)
- Implement validation rules at source systems
- Conduct periodic audits to identify :
a. Duplicate records
b. Incorrect classifications (e.g., territory, partner type)
c. Missing or inconsistent data fields
- Lead data cleansing initiatives and continuous quality improvement
3. Master Data Lifecycle Management :
- Design and implement workflows for :
a. Data creation (e.g., onboarding new partners or customers)
b. Data updates (pricing, territory changes, hierarchy updates)
c. Deactivation and archival processes
- Ensure approval workflows are enforced across systems
- Maintain and monitor golden records
4. Cross-System Data Consistency :
- Ensure alignment of master data across :
a. CRM platforms
b. Service and operational systems
c. Dealer / partner systems
d. Finance and ERP systems
- Define system of record (SoR) for each data entity
- Work with engineering teams to manage :
a. Data synchronization logic
b. APIs and integrations
c. Conflict resolution mechanisms
5. Reporting & MIS Reliability :
- Partner with analytics teams to ensure consistent reporting definitions
- Eliminate discrepancies across dashboards and reports
- Act as the gatekeeper for business-critical metrics and data accuracy
6. Business Enablement :
- Translate business requirements into structured data models and hierarchies
- Support :
a. Pricing and discounting frameworks
b. Allocation and matching logic
c. CRM segmentation and campaigns
- Enable scalable data structures aligned with business growth
7. Tooling & MDM Evolution :
- Evaluate and implement Master Data Management (MDM) tools as needed
- Establish data catalogs and documentation frameworks
- Start with lightweight governance (Excel, CRM systems) and scale towards enterprise-grade solutions
Key Deliverables (First 6 Months) :
- Comprehensive Master Data Dictionary across all entities
- Defined data ownership matrix across teams
- Reduction of duplicate records by 7080%
- Implementation of standardized data creation and update workflows
- Clear definition of system of record (SoR) for each data entity
- Monthly data quality scorecard and reporting framework

Ideal Candidate Profile :
Experience :
- 5 to 10 years of experience in :
a. Data governance, MDM, or business analytics roles
b. OR operations roles with strong data ownership exposure
- Experience in industries such as FMCG, retail, marketplaces, or services is preferred
Core Skills :
Must Have :
- Strong understanding of business processes and operational workflows
- Ability to identify inconsistencies and perform root cause analysis
- Hands-on experience with CRM and/or ERP systems
- Structured thinking with high attention to detail
Good to Have :
- Exposure to MDM tools (e.g., Informatica, SAP MDG, etc.)
- Basic SQL or data querying skills
- Understanding of data modeling concepts
