Role Overview :

We are seeking a Director - Product Software Engineering (15-18 years) to lead a multi-domain product portfolio spanning multiple squads and engineering managers. You will define technology strategy, own architectural direction, and scale engineering practices to deliver secure, resilient, and user-centric enterprise products.

This role requires strong strategic judgment, deep technical and architectural expertise, and the ability to build and lead high-performing engineering organizations. You will drive multi-year platform and modernization roadmaps, advance engineering excellence, scale AI-enhanced development workflows, and ensure enterprise-grade quality, security, and reliability.

You will partner with product, design, architecture, security, and business leaders to align investment, roadmaps, and execution with business outcomes. The Director is accountable for organizational health, delivery predictability, cost optimization, risk and compliance posture, and enabling innovation at scale.

You will own delivery outcomes across multiple product domains and shape data and AI platform strategy to ensure engineering investments directly enable product experiences, growth, and AI innovation. These platforms power critical data products that help researchers, clinicians, scientists, and business leaders make faster, more confident decisions.

You will help build the data foundation behind products that accelerate drug discovery, evaluate treatment effectiveness, model patient journeys, and bring life-saving innovations to market. You will collaborate closely with Product Management, Product Engineering, AI/ML, Analytics, and Platform Engineering leaders to ensure scalable, reliable, well-governed data and AI foundations integrated into the product lifecycle

Key Responsibilities :

Leadership & Mentoring :

- Lead and develop engineering managers, architects, and senior technical leaders, establish growth paths and succession plans.

- Build a strong engineering culture rooted in craftsmanship, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

- Coach leaders on technical decision-making, prioritization, conflict resolution, and data-driven delivery management.

Strategic Oversight :

- Define multi-year technical strategy, architectural modernization, platform evolution, and domain boundaries.

- Drive alignment across product, architecture, and business on long-term roadmaps, NFRs, and technical OKRs.

- Own portfolio-level prioritization, capacity planning, risk management, and cross-team orchestration.

Product & Feature Ownerships :

- Shape multi-product or multi-domain strategy in partnership with product leadership.

- Ensure technical decisions directly enable customer outcomes, product scalability, and long-term maintainability.

- Govern delivery excellence metrics (DORA, reliability, regression leakage, value vs. cost).

Team & Process Management :

- Scale engineering processes across teams (25 + Team members)-trunk-based development, release governance, quality gates, and change management.

- Ensure operational excellence: deployment readiness, incident response, on-call maturity, runbooks, and RCA/postmortems.

- Oversee cross-domain integration, risk handling, compliance controls, and production reliability.

Full Stack Development :

- Establish enterprise-level patterns for backend services, APIs, UI frameworks, modular UI architecture, data contracts, and system integration.

- Govern adoption of clean architecture, domain-driven design, event-driven patterns, and federated API governance.

- Lead cloud strategy across AWS/Azure/GCP including scaling, right-sizing, cost optimization, and platform shared services.

System Integration & Delivery :

- Own API lifecycle governance (versioning, compatibility, deprecation), identity federation (OAuth/OIDC), and domain interaction contracts.

- Standardize CI/CD blueprints with security scanning, compliance checks, automated rollbacks, and progressive delivery models.

- Ensure containerized workloads operate reliably at scale on Kubernetes/EKS, supported by hardened IaC frameworks.

Quality, Safety & Enterprise Readiness :

- Set enterprise-level quality and security standards including secure SDLC, SAST/DAST/SCA, threat modeling, and data privacy compliance.

- Govern SRE practices-SLIs/SLOs, error budget policies, resilience testing, and chaos engineering adoption.

- Ensure readiness for internal/external audits, SOX/ISO compliance, and regulatory controls.

Innovation & Continuous Learning :

- Drive an innovation portfolio including platform upgrades, GenAI initiatives, architecture modernization, and disruptive tech evaluations.

- Sponsor hackathons, technical guilds, R&D spikes, and continuous learning programs.

- Establish frameworks for experimentation, hypothesis-driven development, and A/B testing.

AI-Driven Engineering & GenAI Leadership :

- Define AI/GenAI strategy for engineering, including adoption roadmaps, capability building, and organization-wide guardrails.

- Govern enterprise RAG architecture patterns, vector database lifecycle, prompt engineering standards, and embedding management.

- Enable AI-powered engineering accelerators-AI code generation, PR assistants, test generation, architectural refactoring aids.

- Lead AI observability strategy: token usage governance, model drift detection, latency & cost SLAs, AI safety monitoring.

- Ensure secure GenAI usage across engineering with governance around input redaction, output filtering, logging, and compliance.

Developer Experience (DevX) & Platform Maturity :

- Build platform capabilities that improve development velocity-service templates, reusable modules, infrastructure blueprints, golden paths.

- Lead development of internal developer platforms (IDP), service catalogs, API gateways, and CI/CD orchestration layers.

- Drive simplification and standardization of engineering environments, tooling, and workflows across teams.

- Leverage AI-powered DevX tooling (AI search, code indexing, docs automation, automated incident summarization).

Portfolio, Financial & Stakeholder Management :

- Own engineering portfolio planning, budgeting, vendor evaluation, and FinOps across cloud infrastructure and GenAI workloads.

- Measure ROI, TCO, productivity, and engineering throughput; optimize investments and operational costs.

- Engage with senior product, design, business, and security leaders to align on vision, execution, and outcomes.

Risk, Compliance & Security Leadership :

- Own risk registers, mitigation strategies, and compliance governance across the portfolio.

- Partner with Security, Legal, and Data Privacy teams to ensure responsible data handling and regulatory alignment.

- Ensure products meet internal audit, compliance, and risk standards (e.g., SOC 2, ISO27001).

Required Skills & Qualifications :

Experience & Education :

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent).

- 15-18 years in software engineering and 5+ years managing multi-team engineering organizations.

- Proven experience leading platform modernization, cloud transformation, or multi-product engineering portfolios.

Technical Skills :

- Expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, full stack engineering, and platform engineering.

- Strong background in Kubernetes/EKS, CI/CD governance, IaC frameworks, and production operations at scale.

- Deep understanding of SRE, observability, performance engineering, and resilience patterns.

Product & Communication :

- Strong executive communication-able to articulate architectural strategy, trade-offs, and risk posture.

- Demonstrated ability to influence product strategy, negotiate priorities, and align multi-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience with enterprise architecture, API ecosystems, event-driven platforms, micro frontends.

- Hands-on experience with ML/AI, vector DBs, GenAI orchestration, and Responsible AI design principles.

- Experience leading large-scale migrations (monolith microservices, cloud modernization, platform consolidation).
