CGI - Senior Oracle Database Administrator

Role Overview :

We are seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in Oracle database management, automation, and cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing critical Oracle UAT and Production environments, ensuring high availability, optimal performance, and security.

This role requires a professional who can independently manage client stakeholders, coordinate with multiple cross-functional teams, and contribute to cloud migration and DevOps-driven automation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities :

Database Administration & Operations :

- Manage and maintain Oracle UAT and Production databases with full lifecycle ownership.

- Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance optimization of database systems.

- Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, and configuration in Linux and Windows environments.

- Manage backup and recovery operations using RMAN and enterprise backup tools such as Commvault.

- Monitor database health using Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and proactively resolve issues.

Performance & Security :

- Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning.

- Implement and maintain database security standards, patching cycles, and compliance controls.

- Ensure proper access control, auditing, and vulnerability management.

Automation & DevOps :

- Develop shell scripts and automation tools to streamline routine DBA activities.

- Support DevOps initiatives by integrating database operations into automated workflows.

- Continuously identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation.

Stakeholder & Cross-Team Collaboration :

- Independently manage client stakeholders and act as a key technical point of contact for database-related operations.

- Work closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, cloud teams, and DevOps teams to support application releases and operational requirements.

- Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and service improvement initiatives.

- Ensure effective communication and coordination across multiple teams to deliver stable and reliable database services.

Key Projects :

- Cloud Migration : Support migration of on-premises applications and Oracle databases to AWS cloud environments.

- Operational Support : Provide end-to-end operational support for Oracle databases, including performance tuning, patching, backup/recovery, and incident management.

- Automation Initiatives : Implement automation using shell scripting and DevOps tools to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.

- Client Engagement : Deliver high-impact Oracle database operations for a Utility sector client, ensuring operational excellence and reliability.

Required Skills & Experience :

- 8+ years of hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA.

- Strong experience managing Oracle databases in UAT and Production environments.

- Expertise in Oracle Grid Infrastructure, OEM monitoring, and agent setup.

- Hands-on experience with RMAN backup & recovery and enterprise backup tools such as Commvault.

- Strong knowledge of Linux and Windows Server environments.

- Experience in shell scripting and automation for DBA tasks.

- Ability to work independently, manage stakeholders, and collaborate with multiple technical teams.

Preferred / Good to Have :

- Experience with AWS cloud platforms, particularly AWS RDS.

- Exposure to Microsoft SQL Server administration.

- Experience supporting large enterprise or utility sector environments.

Qualifications :

- B.E / B.Tech in any discipline.

- Oracle DBA Certification.
