Role : Workday FINS Core Consultant
Grade : Assistant Manager
Mode : Hybrid (2 Days WFO & 3 Days WFH)
Shift : UK (11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)
Working days : Monday to Friday
Key Responsibilities :
Core Financials Support and Configuration :
- Provide day-to-day technical and functional support for Workday Core Financials processes and workflows.
- Configure and maintain relevant Workday business processes, condition rules, validations, approval routing, notifications, worktags and accounting-related configuration.
- Support journal imports, journal approvals processes, and journal-related reporting.
- Support banking and settlement-related touchpoints where these interact with Core Financials, including bank account configuration, settlement event accounting, payment accounting and bank reconciliation dependencies.
- Support tax-related configuration and accounting impacts, tax codes, tax reporting dependencies and tax accounting outputs where applicable.
- Ensure Core Financials configuration is understood, documented, tested and maintained in line with agreed governance.
Incident, Request and Change Management :
- Triage and resolve Core Financials support tickets within agreed SLA and priority thresholds.
- Investigate and resolve system issues, configuration queries, accounting errors, journal failures, posting issues, integration exceptions, unexpected system behaviour, data issues and user-reported defects.
- Analyse ticket trends, recurring issues and root causes to identify process, configuration, data, training or control improvement opportunities.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional and technical requirements, configuration options, accounting impact assessments, testing scenarios and deployment plans.
- Support impact assessments for Core Financials change requests, ensuring dependencies across PSA, Procure-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash, HCM, Payroll, security, integrations, reporting and data are considered.
- Work with our AMS partner, Workday and internal technical teams to resolve higher-complexity defects, configuration questions, integration issues and system design considerations.
- Maintain clear records of changes, decisions, accounting impacts, test evidence, approvals and operational impacts.
Governance, Risk and Controls :
- Ensure all Core Financials support and change activity follows agreed Workday governance, including demand management, change control, testing, approvals and release management.
- Support role-based security and segregation of duties considerations for Core Financials processes, working with the Finance Lead and Product Owner as required.
- Maintain strong documentation standards for financial accounting configuration, business processes, known issues, workarounds and support procedures.
- Identify and escalate risks relating to financial accounting structures, data processing, data quality, system audit requirements and financial control weaknesses.
- Support audit, compliance and data protection requirements by ensuring Core Financials activity is traceable, controlled and evidenced.
- Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close activities by ensuring system issues, posting failures, and journal errors are investigated and resolved in a controlled and timely way.
Testing, Releases and Continuous Improvement :
- Create, maintain and execute test scenarios for Core Financials configuration, business processes, security, reports, integrations and related data.
- Support Workday release planning, regression testing and adoption activity for Core Financials functionality.
- Validate configuration changes through structured testing, including positive and negative scenarios, accounting outputs, journal posting, approval routing, intercompany, custom validations and control-related checks.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Core Financials processes, focusing on standard Workday functionality, improved data quality, stronger controls, simplified user experience, automation and reduced manual workarounds.
- Support knowledge transfer and cross-skilling across the wider Workday Finance Support Team to improve resilience and service coverage.
Stakeholder Engagement :
- Work closely with Finance Shared Services, Finance departments such as Record-to-Report, Tax, Treasury and Finance stakeholders to understand operational issues, process pain points and user needs.
- Partner with the Workday Support Team Finance Lead and Product Owner to prioritise Core Financials workload, escalations, defects and improvement opportunities.
- Communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders, explaining accounting-related system issues, configuration options, constraints and recommended solutions in simple terms.
- Support the Finance Workday Team Leader, Finance Process Owner and Workday Product Owner with roadmap inputs, prioritisation and business case information for Core Financials improvements.
- Build effective working relationships with our AMS partner, Workday, IT, Finance and other Workday support colleagues.
Person Specification :
Experience :
- Experience supporting, configuring or administering Workday Financials, ideally with a focus on Core Financials, Financial Accounting, Record-to-Report or General Ledger.
- Strong understanding of core finance processes, including financial accounting, ledger structures, journals, accounting rules, work tags, intercompany, allocations, tax accounting, banking touchpoints and period close activities.
- Experience investigating and resolving Workday configuration, business process, accounting, reporting, data, integration or security-related issues.
- Experience operating within structured service management, incident management, change governance, release management and testing processes.
- Experience working with Finance, Record-to-Report, Tax, Treasury, Shared Services, AMS providers or technology partners to resolve system issues and deliver change.
- Experience documenting requirements, accounting impacts, configuration changes, test evidence, support procedures and operational impacts.
Skills and Behaviours :
- Strong Workday Financials functional and technical knowledge, with the ability to understand configuration, business processes, reporting, security, integrations and data touchpoints.
- Strong Core Financials process knowledge, with awareness of accounting controls, journal processing, posting rules, worktag governance, financial reporting and audit requirements.

Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Accounting, Business Systems, IT or a related discipline.
- Workday Financials experience required; Workday Financials or Financial Accounting certification preferred.
- Accounting, finance operations or record-to-report experience desirable.
- Experience of Agile, service management, testing or release management frameworks desirable.
- Professional services, shared services, finance operations or finance systems experience desirable.
