Job Description

Role Overview :

We are looking for an experienced AS400 Developer to join our technology team and contribute to the development, enhancement, maintenance, and modernization of enterprise applications running on the IBM i (AS/400) platform.

Key Responsibilities :

- Develop, enhance, maintain, and support business-critical applications on the IBM i / AS400 platform.

- Design and develop applications using RPG, RPGLE, CL, and CLLE.

- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effective AS400 application solutions.

- Develop and maintain programs, modules, reports, interfaces, and batch processes.

- Work extensively with DB2 for i, including database design, SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and performance optimization.

- Perform application enhancements, bug fixes, impact analysis, and root-cause analysis for existing systems.

- Develop and maintain interfaces between AS400 applications and external systems using APIs, files, messaging, or other integration mechanisms.

- Analyze existing legacy applications and recommend opportunities for modernization, optimization, and improved maintainability.

- Participate in application migration, modernization, and integration initiatives involving IBM i systems.

- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards, coding practices, and documentation requirements.

- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes.

- Work closely with business analysts, QA teams, architects, infrastructure teams, and other technology stakeholders.

- Support application testing, release activities, deployment, and production implementation.

- Develop unit test cases and perform functional and technical validation of developed solutions.

- Monitor application performance and identify opportunities for improving processing efficiency and system reliability.

- Prepare technical documentation covering application functionality, interfaces, workflows, and implementation details.

Required Technical Skills :

- Strong hands-on experience with IBM i / AS400 development.

- Strong proficiency in RPG, RPGLE, and free-format RPG.

- Good experience with CL and CLLE programming.

- Strong knowledge of DB2 for i.

- Strong SQL development skills, including complex queries, joins, views, and stored procedures.

- Experience with IBM i development tools and environments.

- Good understanding of batch processing, job scheduling, job queues, and IBM i application architecture.

- Experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of AS400 applications.

- Good understanding of database design, data structures, file handling, and application integration.

- Experience working with production support and enterprise application environments.

- Knowledge of version control and software development lifecycle practices.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience with RPGLE modernization and legacy application transformation.

- Exposure to REST APIs, web services, or integration with modern applications.

- Experience integrating AS400 applications with Java, web, cloud, or other enterprise platforms.

- Knowledge of IBM i APIs and integration technologies.

- Exposure to IBM MQ or other messaging technologies.

- Experience with automated deployment and CI/CD practices for IBM i environments.

- Understanding of application security and access controls within IBM i environments.

- Experience with performance optimization for high-volume transaction processing.

Education :

- A degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

- The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the stability and continuous enhancement of critical IBM i applications while contributing to modernization and integration initiatives. The role requires a balance of strong AS400 technical expertise, business understanding, problem-solving ability, and collaboration with cross-functional technology teams.
